“My mentor was very accommodating, supportive and helpful throughout the entire process.”
Hear from Harriet, a Psychology graduate from 2019, who, after 18 months in her first job, wanted to progress her career.
I graduated with a degree in Psychology in 2019 and was fortunate enough to secure a role at a small consulting firm. After 18 months in this role I decided I wanted to progress my career further and explore a new opportunity. However, after several unsuccessful applications, I began to lose confidence in myself. I knew I needed some advice on my CV and interview skills to improve my chances of success. After looking online for CV advice, I came across graduate mentor which offers 1-2-1 mentoring opportunities for students and graduates.
I looked at the list of potential mentors and came across Rebecca’s profile, she has extensive experience in Human Resources and I felt she would be the ideal mentor for me. I immediately reached out to Rebecca to set up an initial mentoring session. Rebecca was very accommodating, supportive and helpful throughout the entire process. We began our first session by exploring my current situation and reviewing my CV. Rebecca was extremely helpful when suggesting improvements for my CV and discussing options for the next step in my career. I left the first mentoring session feeling energised and incredibly grateful to have spoken to Rebecca.
After updating my CV following Rebecca’s recommendations and applying for a variety of roles, I received an invitation to an assessment centre for a graduate position at a large consulting firm. I knew this was a huge opportunity and I wanted to give it my best shot. I reached out to Rebecca in the hope to receive some advice for the assessment centre. We scheduled a mock interview where Rebecca asked me a variety of interview questions and provided clear constructive feedback. I left this mentoring session feeling more confident in my ability and excited to attend the assessment centre. A week later I received the fantastic news that I had secured a place on the graduate programme with CapGemini.
I can’t thank Rebecca enough for her advice, support and encouragement throughout the entire process. I highly recommend graduate mentor and actively encourage everyone to reach out and explore the opportunity.
